how should i start training for cross country in the fall?
Well, im a dancer and i tried out for pom poms last week, didnt make that ='(. so i think im going to try something new, im going to try out for cross country in the fall, i did it in eighth grade,but i stopped because i get short of breath very easily, i dont know if it's because im not a runner anymore, or what. but anyway, id like to do it again. do any of you guys have any tips on training to be a runner again?
Well really anyone can be a runner you just have to be willing to work at it, but I'm so glad you decided to try cross country! The summer is the most important time because this is when you build up you base so you are able to do workouts during the season. Start off by doing some easy runs, about 25-30 mins at a slow, easy pace. As the weeks go by, gradually increase the amount of time you run and your pace until you are able to run about about 45-50 mins at a good steady pace. Once you have hit this point, you can start to do some workouts, I will just give you a few but you can always ask your xc coach for more I'm sure he would be happy to help:
*20 min tempo run - run on the track at a pretty fast, but controlled pace...you can check your mile splits every four laps, try to be around 7:30 pace
*400/mile repeats
*lots of abs and weight room stuff
...again this is just an outline and its okay if you don't do this everyday, but as long as you are running a little bit over the summer. If you want to be really serious about it then you should probably do a lot of these workouts, but if you just want to do it for fun and be chill about it then you can always work up to this. Either way you will have soo much fun and you won't regret your decision
