The Wonders That Sport Watches Can Do
Men love the sport watch because of its many uses. It also has many variations. It can be made of leather, resin and others. Or, it can look like a wristwatch or a digital watch.
A leather watch is one of the most durable gadgets that a man can purchase. You can use the watch in various occasions. It can also provide an aura of sexiness and power to the one who wears it.
A digital sport watch keeps reliable time. The digital watch is more suitable for people on the go or those who love sports. The digital timepieces often have large numbers written clearly on their faces for easy reading. You do not need to count the hands just to tell time.
The graphic lcd ability in digital watches enable it to reflect the numbers clearly. The graphic liquid crystal display modules contain several diamond ranges. These diamond ranges are used by the designers to create numbers, letters and graphics through a software. LCD is also capable of supplying illumination features. The watches can have back light colors due to the LCD.
Most watches have the basic features such as countdown timer and a stopwatch. The differ from wrist watches in the fact that they oftentimes require quartz batteries to be able to function. Both watches can stand the test of time.
Some watches allow you to use dual time features. For travelers, this is very useful because it can help them keep time even if they fly to another country. Other watches have water resistant capabilities that enable them to withstand underwater pressures usually within 50 meters from the above surface.
Diver watches contain functionality that allow them to resist water pressures hundreds of meters below the surface. Runners, unlike divers, may require a watch that contain other capabilities such as a heart rate monitor system. This aspect is important for runners as it determines their heart beat every second. A global positioning system sensor will help the athlete find his location easily and know how many meters left for the finish line. Triathlon athletes would most likely love this feature more than anything else.

The Test(ing) of Time: The Surprisingly Good Hourglass [Uncertain Principles] (scienceblogs)
My class this term is a "Scholars Research Seminar" with the title "A Brief
History of Timekeeping," looking at the science and technology of timekeeping
from prehistory through modern atomic clocks. This is nominally an
introduction to "research methods," though the class operates under a lot of
constraints that fully justify the scare quotes, at least for scientists. As I
am a scientist, though, I want the class to include at least one original
measurement and the reporting thereof, so I've been thinking of really simple
measurements that I can have them do independently and write up. I've
previously blogged about some measurements using cheap timers and the NIST web
site, that I did as a preliminary for this class.
In poking around a bit, I stumbled across this European Journal of Physics
paper on the physics of a sand glass (thanks to a passing mention of it in The
Physics Book), which is a really nice piece that we'll be going over in detail
in class. This suggested another possible cheap and easy measurement, though,
so I bought a pack of cheap sand timers from Amazon, and intend to hand them
