A full contact sport that offers a wide variety of techniques from different styles, both stand-up and on the ground is called Mixed Martial Arts or MMA. Judo, Muay Thai, kick boxing, Karate and wrestling are just a few of the utilized skilled arts. Whole body fighting is acceptable in MMA by combining joint manipulating techniques with throwing and striking.
An example of one art is Muay Thai that was utilized for warfare in the 1800's. As it modernized, these fights became spectator sports for Kings in various countries. Muay Thai means "Art of Eight Limbs" and makes use of eight contact points. These include knee hits, punches, kicks and elbow strikes performed in a stand-up position. This is no comparison to the sport of Western boxing that only has two points, hands and feet.
Holding the opponent down through grappling moves similar to wrestling is known as ground fighting. Getting the dominant position or preventing strikes while on the ground is clinched fighting. The only equipment needed is small gloves, open-fingered or closed, depending on the country, type of fight and weight category. Victory in MMA is determined by knockout, doctor stoppage, and submission. Referees have the ability to stop a fight if one of the opponents has sustained serious bodily injury or there have been numerous warnings and fouls causing disqualification.
Mixed Martial Arts first became an official sport within the US when the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was held in 1992. The first no-holds-barred fights were disciplined into a sport including time limits and restrictions to prevent bodily harm. In 2008, the UFC expanded from the United States to Canada. Calgary is comparative to massive cities such as Los Angeles or Chicago and its pay-per-view events draw huge audiences. Shows are sold out within minutes by people of all ages and lifestyles.
Individuals from all over the world travel to Calgary to attend one of the many schools prominent in MMA to learn from the best teachers. It is cautioned that one should watch a few sessions before committing. Instructors are willing to speak with potential students and enroll them in starter classes to make sure this is an adequate sport for that person. Competitive martial arts differ from self defense and should not be categorized as the same. Some of the techniques may overlap, but many of the strategies are not sensible for someone to utilize in an attack type situation.

MMA Stance VS Bruce Lees JKD Stance which is better for the street and why?
The MMA stance I speak of is like a hunkered down international rules kickboxing stance so you can do wrestling takedowns from it and defend them and also strike with the full muay thai arsenal.
I was just wondering which is more practical for the street? I mean even though the MMA stance isnt designed for the street Krav maga uses a similar stance etc so it seems its quite practical even though the lead leg dosnt protect the groin.
What constitutes an "MMA stance" varies from fighter to fighter. GSP's stance isn't Wanderlei Silva's stance. For the sake of argument though, I'll assume this is the stance you're talking about:

Given those, I'd prefer the "MMA stance" because it's designed for more close-ranged action, which is where most real fights will kick off. The hands are closer in, providing more cover; the rear leg is closer to throw a kick or knee; the position of the legs is better for defending takedowns, which is a common attack on the street; even though the lead leg is not covering the groin, it is still in a great position to "check" an incoming kick.
The Jun Fan/JKD stance is designed for maximum reach of the lead weapons, but most real confrontations kick off at "coversation range". Even if I try to casually assume the JKD stance I'll be crowded. I can casually assume the "MMA stance" while still maintaining a "fence" position or otherwise being nonchalant with my body language.
