Guard Yourself From A Mugger Through General Techniques
For some, the idea of taking classes in the martial arts is all they will ever need to defend themselves or their loved ones. However there are few martial art instructors who will fully agree. The techniques you master in class are theorectical, and even though they can be applied to everyday cases, you will find that it takes practice and confidence.
That said; some self defense skills are better than none.
Guarding Yourself When You Get Mugged
Just think about the possibility of begin mugged on a night out when a predator demands your jewelry, purse or wallet. What would you do?
Much of your defensive techniques are actually designed to work best before you are approached. Stop walking outside along, during the night. Stay aware and alert. Walk near the curb of a sidewalk rather than near the buildings. {Walk quickly to give the impression of purpose`It's also a good notion to walk quickly, so that you project the impression of purpose}. Also think about organizing an emergency money clip or wallet to operate for distraction that only hold a few dollars.
On the other hand if you still become a victim of a mugger, it is usually a good idea to comply with the demands of your attacker, particularly if a weapon is involved. However if you are provided an opportunity to run, take it. It is important that you follow any directions gives, making sure to inform the police after the mugger leaves. Remember, the mugger’s goal is to get your valuables, act stupidly and it might cost you your life instead.
Close Up Confrontation and Potential Abduction
The common defense that women operate is just as applicable to men. If attacked in a close vincity to a man target his private area. Knees, feet and even a fist, applied in the correct area will temporarily incapacitate a male attacker. Studies consistently indicate that going anywhere with an armed assailant is much more dangerous than fighting them off.
If the groin is covered or unavailable, use the base of the palm to strike up hard at the nose. Your main goal is to make contact which will ultimately produce significant pain. Proper contact will break a nose very efficiently.
While you may face an attacker who is carrying a gun, you are unlikely to get hit at if you successfully run away while additionally weaving and yelling in the process. Once you get in a car with such a person, you are not likely to be seen alive again.
General Techniques to Use in Confrontation
No matter what circumstances occur that require the use of your self defense skills, there are some basics that work nearly every time. Employ your elbows and knees when you can, as they are extremely solid and provide a hard kit.
Aim for the throat, the privates, the nose and, if needed, the eyes. It is important that you scream, kick, punch, yell and bite, until you have completely managed to get away, or if someone helps. Running away is better instead of fighting, and make sure you stay away from the head as you will realize that it is tougher than your fist.
To end you can increase your chances if you are in a hostile situation by carrying pepper spray. Hold the spray in your hand if you are in a less than safe area, ready for action. You will quickly realize that you are only presented a split second to fire your tool if the moment arrives.
Martial Arts: punch VS open palm? Which is more damaging to opponent?
My question is; does the open palm strike do as much (or about the same) damage as a punch???
Many say a punch with the knuckles is the most damage-inflicting way to strike with the hands, because the knuckles are hard etc. I am a fan of the open palm strike, though, because unlike the punch, it does virtually no damage to the one striking.
I teach this basic principal I learned from my Master. Soft to hard and hard to soft. Translated it goes generally like this, palm strikes to the head, fist to the midsection. It takes a lot of practice to get the palm oriented to do proper strikes to the head and other hard parts of the body such as shins. You can punch to the head depending on the part of the head and the orientation of the fist. Bare handed fighting is nothing like boxing in this regard, as you can break your hand with bad techniques. Considering the structure of the face there are several orientations of the palm that will do more damage than a fist. The problem of course with this is training hard enough so that technique flows fast and without hesitation. This is why I think some schools do not emphasize the palm strike more.
