Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor: A Great Accessory For Anyone

When it comes to GPS, the Garmin brand has been a leader for quite a while. If you already have a GPS system in your car, it is possible that it is a Garmin as it is the top selling brand.

And nowadays Garmin has gone one step further and went about making GPS systems that are wrist worn. However, their first attempts were not that great. Simply because of the size of the previous devices. Their first units were still roughly the same size of the Garmin you would use in your auto, it just had an attached wrist band.

Nevertheless, with the new Garmin 305, the size has been cut down highly. While it doesn't have the James Bond size of a traditional watch, it is much smaller and kind of comfortable to wear.

If you are the sporting type and like to know your heart rate, you will like the fact that this GPS unit has a heart rate monitor built in. Aiming for folks who love to run or go for bicycle rides. Because the company also made this device waterproof, you don't have to worry if it starts raining while you're running or biking.

The latest design also wraps around your wrist, making this the comfiest device as yet. And the screen itself is a huge wide screen display, making this device truly easy to read.

Changing the batteries all the time will not be a problem either since this device is powered by a rechargeable battery. It also is accompanied by a cradle that features a mini USB port so you can even charge the device with your computer if that is more convenient.

Even though the GPS doesn't come with all the features of the larger vehicle GPS units, it has everything you will need. This device nevertheless allows you to save destinations, just like its bigger brother. If you hit numerous different destinations, you can save them to design an exercise path.

And in addition to the GPS features, the exercise features are genuinely terrific. Not only will you be able to monitor your heart rate to keep it steady but you will also be able to determine how many calories you burn during your exercise routine. Some people enjoy competition and are at their best when competing, and this device allows you to compete against the computer. This adds a bit of entertainment into your workout session.

The Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor is available to be bought through Amazon. If you detest paying retail, you won't have to since Amazon is selling this unit for $128, and that includes free shipping. One of the good things about purchasing this unit from Amazon is the fact that you can save over $100 rather than paying the retail price.

This wrist unit has a lot more features that we never even addressed here, so if you're searching for other features, this unit may have them. Before buying any other wrist worn unit, I would strongly suggest you look at the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver with heart rate monitor. This is a very well built piece of equipment and because it is made by Garmin you know you will be purchasing a high quality unit.

Good Workout or a waste of time?

I've just started going back to the gym after a year(school ended and with it my gym membership). I've been doing 45min-1hr of cardio(45min on a sitdwn bike 15min on a stair master) but I'm not outta breath and although naturally I don't sweat a lot, I'm barely sweating afterwards. I'm 23 and reach the machine's pre-selected heart-rate of 153-158. Am I getting any kind of work out at all, or just wasting an hour? What cardio should I be doing? Haven't been working out for that long, so I'm not trying to run a marathon or anything.

If you're not sweating and you don't feel like your lungs are working hard you are probably not doing enough. You would be better off working out for 30 minutes at a higher intensity. Every body is different and I can't tell you what is going to work for YOU, but bottom line is you need to listen to your body. I would try maybe running, either on a treadmill or just on the street, and make sure you are working at a level appropraiate for you. Ignore the machine's readings. People get too caught up in that and they are so general. You need to raise your body temp enough to break a sweat and you need to be breathing hard enough that you can still carry on a conversation but feel like you would rather not. That's the rule that I use and it works for me.

TUAW Best of 2011: Vote for the best iPhone accessory (TUAW)

_The nominations are in, and the poll is ready to go! The TUAW Best of 2011
awards are all about you -- the readers -- and what you think is the cream of
the crop of Apple or third-party products and software. To vote, select one
entry from the top nominations made by readers. We'll be announcing the winner
in just a few days. Vote early and often!_

Today TUAW is asking for your vote for the **best iPhone accessory of 2011**.

What accessories excited our readers in 2011? One was an Apple product -- the
second-generation Apple TV (US$99). Yes, it is an iPhone accessory, since you
can beam video, photos, and music to the device from your iPhone. Your iPhone
is even a remote control for the Apple TV, so the little connection to your
HDTV is a natural match for the iPhone.

Cases are another popular iPhone accessory, and four cases received notice
from our readers. The incredible LifeProof case for iPhone 4 / 4S ($79.99) is
waterproof, shockproof, dirtproof, and snowproof. For my review of the
LifeProof case in August, my iPhone 4 got to go for a dip, and ...
